MY NEW BROTHER

Right now I’m at the hospital
waiting for my mother.
My dad is in a funny outfit,
helping deliver my new baby brother.

I just saw pictures,
7 pounds, 13 ounces wow!
He has dark hair, and skin so fair,
we can finally see him now.

His lungs are great we found that out,
in the nursery he gave the loudest shout!
He cries when he’s hungry, then sleeps so sound,
I’m gonna love having a new brother around

THE FORGOTTEN SOLDIER

In this war zone everyone wants to go home
While the death shots are fired,
The cannon balls fly.
The wounded cry: Help us! Help us!
In the deep, dark, black sky.
But you don’t cry alone
You forgotten soldier.

Your fellow soldiers tell you to run and save yourself.
You have a family. They need you.
But you refuse to leave them.
Time passes, you’re cold, hungry, and tired.
You want to go home.
Most of your friends are either dying or dead.

Finally, as you look at them, you begin to cry.
You stand up, and almost simultaneously
are shot in the leg.
You fall, wounded.
One friend, the last one alive says to run,
But you pick him up and call for help.

It doesn’t come.

As you sit there, crying and thinking of your family,
You imagine them getting the bad news of your death.
The general will say:

“Ma’am, we are truly sorry for the loss of your husband,
William Gerald Smith, of the second infantry.
He died honorably at his post,
Serving for the Union in this Civil War.”

Your friend just died.
And you are dying too.
Please let me go quickly you think.
Finally, after what seems like an eternity, you die.

As you look down from heaven, you see the general finds you
and your friends’ bodies.
They did not know what you did for your friends.

“Ma’am, we are truly sorry for the loss of your husband,
William Gerald Smith, of the second infantry.
He died honorably at his post,
Serving for the Union in this Civil War.”

PICTURE OF DANCE

They switch from the left to the right,
step back and forth.
Twirl and step, switch and twist
the gowns swirl together colors not matching.
Men and women move to music,
hands up, hands down, all twirl around
young and old. Quiet and bold.
All together now,
as happiness fills around.

I LOVE BRUSSEL SPROUTS

I love to sing and I love to play,
And I love to talk the day away
I love gum and water spouts,
But I really hate brussel sprouts
They make me ill and make me sick,
They make me want to eat a stick
Brussel sprouts look really bad,
They do, even ask my dad
Except, once I was outside
And I wasn’t aware of the food I tried
I heard screams and I heard shouts,
The food I tried was brussel sprouts
I love the brussel sprouts I had,
I loved, them even ask my dad.

MY HORSE

I love my Palamino’s brown hair,
She is such a beautiful mare.
I ride her here and there,
I enjoy riding her everywhere.
When I can’t it isn’t fair,
Instead all day I brush her with care.
When she runs it’s a wonderful sight,
That I can’t stop dreaming of her at night.

SUMMER

I look outside and surely see,
What summertime has brought for me
A big blue sky, shining sun,
And little kids having fun
The leaves are green up in the tree
And my mom with the neighbors sipping tea
A little bird comes and gives me a tweet
I drink lemonade, it tastes so sweet
And that is all that I have seen
As my mom asks me to come in and clean.

“DREAMING AS I’M READING”

When I come to the library to look for a book,
I see so many shelves at which I look.

When I read Harry Potter I was a magical witch.
My powers could get me out of any ditch.

I love reading because it takes me to new and exciting places.
I meet different characters with exotic faces.

When I read The Clique I was a super popular girl.
My classmates would stare at my designer clothes when I did a twirl.

Reading takes you into a whole new universe.
When you come back to your world, you feel it was a dream or a curse.

When I read Twilight, I was captivated by its story line.
Soon the four books were all mine!

You can learn many new words when you read a book.
Dictionaries are helpful if you need to take a look…

Reading soothes my mind and soul.
I will keep reading forever more.

LETTER FROM POPPY

Your thoughts and prayers kept me going,
Although improvement wasn’t showing.

When the doctors came in without a grin,
I knew I wasn’t going to win!

I know sometimes you weep in bed,
While thoughts of me ramble in your head.

If sometimes you get sad and angry know that I’m here,
To always take away your anger and fear.

I feel so loved by all of your memories of me,
You are all so dear to me and always will be.

So please wipe that tear as it glides down your face,
I’m still here with you in every place.

MY FAMILY

My family is my life the thing that keeps me going
They mean so much, they’re what keeps my blood flowing
If I didn’t have them here I think I’d really fall
Off a cliff I can’t climb I won’t make it without them at all
If I was all alone I don’t know what I’d do
All I’d really want is someone to take care of me to say I love you
My family is always there even through the hard times
They’d even have my back when I’ve done the worst crimes
If there’s someone I trust someone I need
I know that I have my family to help me succeed
If I’m in an ocean with no one around
Just thinking about my family’s love I know I won’t drown
My family will be there no matter how things get
We will always be close and never ever split

GOOD BYE

Beautiful, ugly, full of strife
Agony, pain, in the end of life.
Seeming as if she’d run out of breath,
The old wolf howls before her own death.
Memories, visions, all come together
Lifting her heart to the weight of a feather.
It’s the circle of life, her mother had said.
One day or another you’re bound to be dead.
A terrible thing, a blessing or fear.
She wouldn’t like it when the end came near.
Not knowing her fate before it is done
The elderly lupine and the earth become one.
For without life there’d be no end
It’s a time when your soul has a chance to mend.

Waiting on top of the flowered hill
The she-wolf sits, her body so still.
Green eyes are searching the skies up above,
Remembering those, the ones she had loved.
Daylight is peeking through the white clouds
Her mind is restless, like the rabbit that bounds.
Breathing a sigh into sweet summer sun
She knows this is it; she knows life is done.
Closing her eyes her mind can now rest
Mother Nature knowing the end is the best.
As her last breath is drawn, she is at ease.
She whispers, “Good-bye” to the warm summer breeze.

WHY SHOULD I BE?

Why should I be
Someone I’m not
Just to blend in
When all that matters
Is that I am myself
And no one else

Why should I be
Like everyone else
When I can be me
I can be unique and
People will like me for me

Why should I be
That person
Who falls into the temptations
Just to be “cool”
And join the bandwagon

Why should I be
Anyone but myself
When I am the best person out there
And no one beats being me

WATCHING THROUGH HER WINDOW

I am sitting on the tree
right next to her window,
watching as she sleeps,
watching the rise and fall of her chest.
So peaceful,
like the night.
She shines so bright
like the stars twinkling above me
Just watching,
Just waiting,
not for anything I suppose, but
I love what I see and
picture myself next to her
stroking her hair,
her cheeks.
Seeing her as beautiful as possible
I want to hold her in my arms
and never let go.
I want her
forever
I dream of her
hugging me,
she takes my breath away
so beautiful,
so pleasant,
I want her,
with me.
I want her,
by my side.
But now,
all I do
is sit
by her window,
in a tree,
and watch her sleep
so peacefully
dreaming,
of
me…
